Know Bainbridge Island
Beautiful Bainbridge Island, where the Mountains meet the Sea, is an island community of more than 22,000, nestled between Seattle and the Cascade Mountain range to the east, and the Olympic Peninsula to the West.
Although Bainbridge Island lies in the middle of Puget Sound, it is in no way isolated. Seattle is a short 35 minute commute by ferry, much more pleasant than fighting traffic on a daily basis. With 2 dozen round trips each day to the city, it is no wonder that over 60 percent of islanders commute to Seattle for their employment. The Agate Pass Bridge also connects the island to the Kitsap Peninsula for those who commute to the Bremerton/Silverdale metro area which houses regional military bases.
With a small town feel, Bainbridge prides itself with many yearly traditions. The year starts out with the annual Chilly Hilly Bike Ride which attracts thousands of bicycle enthusiasts from around Washington. Each spring, gardens take top billing as Bainbridge in Bloom offers tours of prized gardens throughout the island. The annual Rotary Auction and 4th of July Parade are eagerly anticipated by residents and visitors alike. To showcase the artists that live and work here, bi-annual studio tours are held in various locales on the island. A Harvest Faire, a Pumpkin Walk and Trick or Treating in Downtown Winslow are among the fall festivities. Winter brings the town together by the Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Winslow, enjoying hot cider while perusing local arts and crafts during Christmas in the Country, or escaping the chill at the theater.

Although Bainbridge Island has a small town attitude, it has a big city appetite. Many local eateries abound keeping visitors and residents happy. With a wide array of international and local cuisines to choose from, your palate will always be satisfied. With island wineries featured on the menus, one doesn't need to search far for luxury to compliment a meal. Recently, Café Nola was featured on the Food Network's Giada's Weekend Getaway for the Best Brunch in the Seattle area.
The Bainbridge community offers many different lifestyle choices when it comes to choosing a home. Not only are there pockets of traditional neighborhoods, there are neighborhoods to suit individual desires. Private and public golf course communities are available, as are equestrian neighborhoods complete with meandering trails. Many homes are fortunate to have stunning water or mountain views. Whether a private beach cottage, a luxury condo or a country estate is on your list, you'll be sure to find it here.
Education is taken very serious on Bainbridge. Nearly 65% of residents over 25 years old have college degrees or higher, which influences the quality of education at our local schools. The public educational system rivals top public schools in the nation, ranking in the top 10, including ranking in the top 4 in Washington State. The kids get a private school education on a public school dollar. Along with these great public schools, many fabulous private schools are offered as well, including an environmental graduate degree program. All schools have a similar philosophy in educating the youth. The goal is to provide the skills and education to allow the students to become well rounded, civic and service oriented adults.

Along with great food, arts and education, sports are indeed an important aspect of an islanders' lifestyle. Both recreational and club sports are available to all ages. Bainbridge Island also has a year round aquatic center hosting a variety of water sports. A little rain will not stop residents from enjoying their home.

Although Money Magazine rated Bainbridge Island the number 2 place to live in 2005, Islanders will tell you it is the only place to live. Living on Bainbridge Island feels like you are on a vacation that lasts forever. From the rocky coastlines with abundant marine life, sweeping panoramic views of snow capped mountains and numerous hiking, biking and horse trails, one can never get tired of the natural beauty that is Bainbridge.
